That's the title of a provocative article by Chris Slevin and Todd Tucker, just published in The Democratic Strategist, an online magazine co-edited by William Galston of the Brookings Institution, Stan Greenberg of Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research, Ruy Teixeira of Center for American Progress and The Century Foundation, and Scott Winship.
As Chris puts it: "The piece highlights how the degree of fair trade/economic progressive messaging played a major role in determining whether individual candidates won or lost and offers several detailed case studies including of top tier, high profile Democratic candidates who distanced themselves from a fair trade message and lost, as well as lower tier candidates who ran more aggressively on trade and won."
